The program, which is run by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, is a privately funded academic competition that recognizes academically promising black students throughout the United States.

Since 1964, more than 33,000 students have received scholarship awards worth about $105 million.

Elgin and Nigel Davis, who are twin brothers, play defensive back and wide receiver for the Bobcats football team. They are among a handful of Palm Beach County students who were named National Achievement Scholarship Program semifinalists.
